It does a pretty good job of imitating it. It's about all we can ask for without cutting a big hole in your guitar. Really brightens up clean parts.

As an optical compressor I expected a low noise floor. In order to achieve unity w/ the pedal the compression or volume had to be high enough that the noise floor was about like my old Dyna Comp. The compression was very transparent however, but I seem to be able to achieve about the same results w/ the Dyna Comp on lower settings. Just wasn't the super quiet operation I expected from an optical compressor.

If you’re familiar with the Diamond compressor, this is a similar circuit. Diamond is no longer in business, so paying a premium on the used market is your only option. These optical comps are the best for guitar in my opinion. They have much more transparent compression compared to Dyna or Ross comps. In a studio environment, your mixing engineer will usually start with an LA-2A or LA-3A style compressor. This is gonna get you in that ballpark, but in the pedal form factor.

Veritile

The tone control is limited. If you add more, the bass disappears. I have other compressors that don't do this. I thought I'd try it. Just OK.

Awesome pedal. I’m someone who can be a bit of a caveman when given too many knobs on a compressor. This unit keeps things very simple and does a fantastic job. It tightens up the low end flab of my Strat while giving my arpeggiated lines much more clarity on each note. Lastly, it gives me a little extra sustain. The pedal does introduce some very slight noise to my signal, but that can be expected of most compressors. At this price point and considering the minuscule amount added, it’s not a deal breaker. If you’re in the market for a compressor then give this one a shot!

Does the job for a good price, great ranges, great for beginners looking to experiment with the chorus sound

Surprisingly good. You can dial in OCD sounds almost to the t.

It kind of sounds like an acoustic, but not really so much that it blows your mind. It’s not expensive though, and I will use it on a couple of songs.
