Perfect for my firefighter lover!
When I saw this book in a kids' e-book sale here yesterday, I immediately knew I had to buy it for my son, who is obsessed with all things firefighter- and police-related. Each time I mention having downloaded a new book to my Fire for us to read, he says, "I sure hope it was firefighters or police!! Was it firefighters or police, mommy?!" The decision to snatch this up at such a low price was pretty much already made for me. We just finished the book before his nap today, and I can say without a doubt that he loved it! While it is fairly short on text and we usually read longer books at his age (he just turned 5 - today, in fact!), I like having shorter books like this for those times when we don't have as much time to read, like before naps or after we've already read 1 or 2 longer ones and he wants "just one more story!" Also, because he loves the subject so much, I think it's one he will be able to use to begin reading by himself; I think he'll be even more motivated to read it on his own and won't be daunted by the length or number of words.I think the text was clever and that the author did a great job with making rhymes with words that are actually related to the content, ie, to telling a story specifically about firefighters. Some books we read, especially those by less experienced authors, seem to take the easy road of having their rhyming words be those we use every day and that could be in any story. Ms. Hubbell, in this book, uses rhymes like Dalmatian and station, and scurry and hurry (when talking about sliding down the pole after the bell clangs). It's a fun one to read out loud! We also really enjoyed the illustrations. The colors are bright and cheerful, lots of reds and yellows, and the playfulness of the pictures fits the text perfectly. Also, I really appreciated the fact that there was at least one *female* firefighter in here, so kudos to the illustrator for that. This mom definitely appreciates the inclusion! If you have a little one from about 2-6, especially one who loves firefighters, I highly recommend this book! I wish we'd had it earlier ourselves, as it would've been great to begin reading this to him as young as 2.

Fun book for kids that you won't hate reading
My son fell in love with this book as a library book at about 12 months, so we bought it to have at the house. He's two now, and this is still one of his favorites. Best of all, I don't hate reading it. Like the Boynton books (my personal faves), this book is fun to read. It has a good rhythm to it and tells a story, unlike so many children's books that are either boring or don't make much sense. Also, if you have a child who's falling in love with trucks, this is a more entertaining way to read about them than those books that just show pictures of various types of trucks with labels on them.

A bedtime favorite
My grandson loves firetrucks and he has us read this to him every night before bed. We like the pictures and the expression in the words.

I want to be a firefighter
Perfect book for preschoolers and beginning readers who idolize firefighters and the job they do. It has intensity and excitement in the rhyming text and it also has very colorful illustrations that will keep the child wide-eyed. It is sure to be read over and over many, many times in our house. A definite favorite.

Super little indestructible book for a toddler
I needed a storybook for a baby shower for the unborn son of a fire-firefighter Mommy-to-be and Daddy-to-be. What book would be more appropriate than a story about firefighters? After a little research and checking the reviews written by others who already had this book, my choice was "Firefighters, Speeding! Spraying! Saving!" I was very pleased with it when it arrived, and I hope the little bumpkin I bought it for will be pleased with it when he arrives.

I bought this book to help teach her how awesome firefighters and fire trucks are
My daughter was afraid of the fire truck sirens. So, I bought this book to help teach her how awesome firefighters and fire trucks are. She still doesn't like the sound, but now she just says it's a fire truck instead of crying.
