Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse - Collector's Edition (PC DVD)

Furry Film Noir
Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  Or Video Game Noir, rather.Of all the video game franchises that should be in your face Sam & Max should be at the front of that queue, instead boring stuff like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty lead the way. No one is really interested in playing "old-fashioned" adventure games anymore, no matter how innovative the series might have been when it first came out.  This leaves games like The Devil's Playhouse to be enjoyed by a smaller, wiser cult of fans, like myself. The game is split into 5 chapters as "canine shamus" Sam and his insane "rabbitty thing" sidekick Max wade through an outrageously surreal plot involving the "Toys of Power" which give Max psychic powers, Lovecraftian monsters, alternate realities, cloning machines, alien invasions, and stolen brains. Were you expecting anything less? It's never once boring, I assure you. However, I do wish that Sam & Max were given an overhaul in the vein of the Monkey Island remake, instead the licence was passed onto TellTale Games after LucasArts was swallowed-up by Disney. These are the guys who made the Back to the Future  game, which is fun but controls stiffly. The Devil's Playhouse is very similar in that regard, but it doesn't spoil the fun a whole lot. This special edition comes with some nice extras and is most certainly worth a purchase even for non-fans.

Sam and Max
I was first introduced to this series by my friend and I'm glad for the recommendation. The series is delightfully funny and entertaining with "the devil's playhouse" being one of their best games yet. If you enjoyed Monkey Island then this is certainly a game you will love, if your a fan of games that are funny and don't take themselves too seriously then this is for you. Also there's a dog in a suit and a fluffy bunny with psychic powers, what more do you want haha.

Probably the best entertainment you'll get for 3
Probably the best entertainment you'll get for 3.75.Devils play house follows on from the previous 2 seasons but returns to an interface more similar to Hit The Road. The humour is all still there, the story is good, and you get a free poster and some badges. My only issues are that it didn't come out on Xbox, and that some of the chapters are a little easy. I'm not knocking stars off though as I would really recommend this game.

Don't play if you suffer from motion sickness
This collection of episodes of Same & Max has introduced a change of visual display from previous Sam & Max games. This results in a shakly display when you try to change direction. I had to stop playing the game after a few minutes as I was feeling nauseous.DO NOT PLAY this game if you suffer from motion sickness.
