Kryptonite Kryptoflex 815 Bicycle Combo Cable Bike Lock

I ordered 2 of these locks for my kids so that they can ride bikes to school. They are easy to operate, and are fairly strong. They are , however, more of a theft deterrent, as they could easily be cut or broken open with strong force. It is important to have kids practice with the lock at home as well, as it is a little too easy to change the combination by accident. A settable combination is nice so that they can pick a number they now, however, a settable lock is not quite as strong or reliable, so this is a trade off. Overall, it is a good lock, but not perfect. The next step up is a key lock.

On the back of the package for this lock, it says to use only for locking up accessories and gear. In other words, this lock has a purpose -- and that purpose is NOT to secure your bicycle from theft, particularly in high-theft areas. No cable lock -- let me repeat, NO cable lock -- will prevent theft in high-theft areas. None. Ever. No matter how it is designed, constructed, etc. Cable locks do not, cannot, and should not be expected to keep your bike safe. Period. If you used this to try to secure your bike, particularly in a high-theft area, and your bike got nicked...man, that stinks. But you used the wrong tool for the job -- you needed a u-lock or a chain, not a cable lock.So why do cable locks exist if you can't trust them to secure your bike all day? Two reasons. First, to secure accessories and gear, like the box told you. Thieves sometimes steal saddles -- if you're in a high-crime area, using this to secure your saddle could be a good idea. Sometimes a thief will steal your wheels -- this deters that, because thieves usually don't want to screw around with even a cable lock just to take a wheel.The second reason cable locks exist is that they are extremely light. So let's say that you're on a long solo ride (50 miles or more), and anticipate having to stop to use the restroom. Your bike will be out of your sight for all of two minutes -- but a thief can get a long way on a stolen bike in two minutes. So what do you do? Throw a light little cable lock in your back pocket, so you can lock your bike up for two minutes. Will this take two minutes to break? Maybe...but more to the point, most thieves won't risk it -- a thief doesn't want be standing there trying to break your lock when you emerge from the bathroom.That's what cable locks are for, and this is a cable lock -- if you want something more robust than a cable lock, then you don't want this. But if you DO want a cable lock, then this is a good one. It's strong, has a good mechanism, is coated so that it won't scratch your bike... It does what a cable lock should do.

This was mainly purchased for my electric scooter to secure while I'm in the store or shopping in a low crime area. I know this product was not meant to be used in high security applications. Product works as intended and the combination is easy to set and use. The only complaint I have is that the cable is very stiff and the way that it is coiled causes the usable length to be reduced drastically. I could get maybe 1 to 1.5 feet of usable length.I understand being coiled like that does have the advantage of portability, however, it could have been either made less stiff or coiled with a bigger radius so that the usable length is much more.Like I mentioned earlier, this was not designed to be used in high security situations and is really meant to be a deterrent. I still would recommend buying but trying to unravel the coil and getting it around what you want to secure does require a bit of work.

We purchased this for our son so that he could ride his bike to school and lock it up. The four-digit combination was easy to set and the tumblers roll easily. The locking mechanism seems to be solid and quite durable. I wish the length of the cable was just a little longer as he struggles to get it around his bike, through both wheels and around a pole. But, with practice, he'll get better at it. This was a good purchase for the price.

Well, I still have my bike, so this lock must be working. Easy to use, easy to change the combo, nice and long, not too heavy. Retains the wound-up spiral shape, which is convenient when you want it rolled up. Slightly less convenient when you're in a hurry, trying to lock up the bike, and the little prongs are twisted the wrong way. If someone busts through this y'all will be the first to know.

I am on my bike every day, and lock it up religiously wherever I go, so a good bike lock is essential. The coiled design on this lock may look like a good idea (e.g., you can wrap it around the handlebars and frame when not in use), but in practice I was constantly struggling with getting it on and off the handlebars/frame and trying to get it uncoiled and in the correct position to lock. It has a mind of its own, and was constantly fighting me. It finally died a natural death after about a year of use (the cable was beginning to separate from the lock, tended to jam up, and I was afraid it would fail in the locked position), and I replaced it with a similar, but uncoiled lock that I just throw in my basket when not in use. What a relief to not have to fight with my bike lock all the time.

Thank you for providing me with a good quality, lightweight combo lock and for the speed in which it was delivered.This bike lock is awesome! great for a quick get-in and get-out transaction at the store, class, etc. However, know the area where you leave your bike. This bike lock is light but does not present a problem for a career bike thief and a pair of bolt cutters, LOL. (this has not happened to me........yet)Anyways, good lock, good price, fast delivery.PS: for those people claiming that the lock came with no directions, it came stapled in between the cardbook tab the lock comes with. Just because you threw it away without inspecting it thoroughly does not mean that other people didn't do their jobs....just FYI

This is a great lock. Easy to set the combo, looks like its pretty secure. Only negative, and this is nit-picking, its a little too easy to re-set the combo. I have accidentally changed the combo well the lock is open and not noticed until I tried to lock it. Does not seem like an issue and it was operator error not a bad design. Overall this is a good lock I would recommend.

Kryptonite a conçu un antivol à câble de bonne qualité. Je l’ai acquis pour protéger ma selle Brooks contre le vol. C’est un antivol à câble donc sa sécurité est de 1/10, mais il va très bien pour protéger les accessoires ou sécuriser son vélo pour des arrêts très très bref.
