The US band who made their name in the 1970s with their hard rock fusion of jazz, funk, pop and R and B perform a number of songs.

Why you need this.
There is a lot more Dan around than there used to be - tours, bootleg audio, compilations and a few excellent DVDs (not to leave out "Nearly Dan" tribute band who are pretty much the next best thing and really worth seeing). Why would you need this? The arrangements don't change much (always immaculate musicianship of course), there are no visual tricks and, let's be honest, they are not the most photogenic of guys (the girls are great, of course). But you DO need this because if you are a true fan of modern music - the quality of song, groove, arrangements and the musical proficiency - there is NOTHING better than Steely Dan. This DVD is annoyingly 4:3 aspect ratio and logo'd in the top right corner of the screen, but camera work is better than "Perfection in Performance" and the sound quality is just fine. They are the masters - sadly, the rest of us fall into the "not worthy " category. I've always said that if I were given two musical wishes the first would be to be good enough to play in Steely Dan and the second one would be to be invited to do so. So, OK I'm biased...but you still need this DVD.

One for the real Steely Dan fans
With Steely Dan official release concert videos being a rarity and aside from the fabulous `Two Against Nature' DVD which is now quite expensive new which would indicate it is discontinued there are only poorer quality offerings like this one which I'm glad I took the chance on.This concert is from the `Everything Must Go' U.S.tour in 2003.The performances are first rate as you would expect from this band of amazing musicians and fortunately the audio quality even though only in stereo is also very acceptable. The let down is the video. It's watchable but nowhere near the pristine hi def video of some recent blu ray concerts and some weird stuff happens intermittently like a fixed shot of the bands backdrop which lasts for 30 seconds then goes back to the band. Also the logo of the video company `Echoes' is permanently visible in the top right corner of the screen. It didn't bother me but it might annoy some.On the upside the camera person at least had the camera focused on the right musician during the solos of which there are many.TRACK LISTING: CUBANO CHANT( Instrumental Band only cuban/jazz intro) AJA - TIME OUT OF MIND- GODWHACKER - CAVES OF ALTAMIRA - BLACK COW - BABYLON SISTERS - SLANG OF AGES - PEG - HOME AT LAST - THE STEELY DAN SHOW - JANIE RUNAWAY - HEY NINETEEN - HAITIAN DIVORCE - THINGS I MISS THE MOST - PARKERS BAND - JOSIE - KID CHARLEMAGNE - DON'T TAKE ME ALIVE - MY OLD SCHOOL - FMBAND LINEUP:CORNELIUS BUMPUS - SAX , TOM BARNEY - BASS , TED BAKER - PIANO, KEITH CARLOCK - DRUMS, JIM PUGH - TROMBONE, MICHAEL LEONHARDT - TRUMPET, WALT WEIZKOPF - SAX, CYNTHIA CALHOUN - B/VOCALS , CINDY MIZELLE - B/VOCALS, CAROLYN LEONHARDT - B/VOCALS.So if you can overlook the poor video quality and lack of 5.1 surround and hey have you ever been to a live concert presented in surround sound anyway, then this is worth the purchase.Maybe just for the diehard fans though but unless the band give us an official release this is the best we can do for now.I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Good performance, disappointing sound quality.
Good performance but the sound is in mono which is a disappointment.

Steely Dan
great listening and viewing at their best brings back those halcyon days of reasonably priced gigs that a student could go to

Decent concert dvd, marred by weird visual image effects here and there.
This is a really nice 2003 Dan concert. The video quality is a little grainy, the audio is fine and the camera work is pretty good. I think it was filmed at a concert in Detroit (Pine Knob). Walter Becker sings "Haitian Divorce", which is a bonus. The set list is impressive. Now the bad news; someone has some unrelated random visual image effects, and has decided that this project would be an ideal opportunity to show them off. This was a bad idea. It doesn't completely ruin the experience, but you wonder abut the overall judgement of such people, when entrusted with the crown jewels as far as back catalogue goes. You should still buy it, but it isn't a match for "Two Against Nature". It would be pretty good if the Steely Dan people got a hold of this and did it right, with the original source material (and any other unreleased filmed concerts out there).

Sempre grandissimi
Concerto risalente a 12 anni fa.

Bootleg
