What I have always wanted!
This is exactly that kind of book that I have been waiting for. I love Urdu, but I cannot read the script. I understand a fair bit of it, but sometimes there are a few words and phrases that stump me when taken out of context. This book has Urdu ghazals written in Urdu script with English transliterations and translations. Not only do I get to read Urdu (in English) I also get to know the words and meanings when I am lost! The ghazals themselves are lovely, and the selection of authors almost all encompassing. K.C Kanda deserves an award!

very good
i really enjoyed reading this book. its the first i have bought and i think it covers the most great urdu speaking poets. Although i felt some of the urdu was quite old, compared to modern urdu today it is still a very good read, a nice introduction to each poet a little about their lives and ofcoirse their poems which are in Urdu, the english, and transliteration(urdu in english) for people who cannot read urdu it is nice to hear how the words would sound which is great. i recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about urdu poetry.

ENJOYABLE BOOK - POOR ENGLISH TRANSLITERATION
IT is a nice mix of history and 4-5 samples of each poet. it is difficult at times to agree with the translation. The Roman transliteration is particularly bad - and required discussion to reconstruct actual words. This will not be a problem for those who can read urdu script.p247/248 was torn - although rest of book appeared to be new. Seemed like it was a return and the seller did not check that one page is missing.if you like some poet/poems - you can usually find more on the internet.IDEAL - book that has Urdu - Hindi - English [Roman transliteration] and it is best if the authors do not try to translate.
