Better suited for my new kitten
I originally bought this toy for my 3 yr old cat. She enjoyed it a bit here and there but after some time she wasn't very interested in it. She prefers to sit and stare from afar instead. A year later I adopted a young kitten and he goes crazy with it! I'm also surprised at how long this toy has lasted since (purchased it in Jan 2022). The toy attachment comes off from time to time since he's able to pull it off eventually so I just have to twist it back in and it's good to go. Any time he's meowing a lot and it's not for food, I turn this on and he'll be amused with this toy for hours!

5 stars from the Cats, 3 stars from the owner
We rescued two kittens who are about a year old at this point, they’re siblings, and have a ton of energy compared to our lazier, older cats. With our busy schedules I wanted something automatic, good news is the kittens love it. My tortie literally cries until I turn it on and goes apes***. I however do not. Her orange brother (the big dumb he is) likes to just lay on the feather and it makes this obnoxious clicking noise. Even if they pat at it. Click click click click click click. It drives me nuts. I want to throw it out the window, but at the same time it wears them out enough so they aren’t terrorizing the household at night. What’s a cat owner to do?

Cat loves it!
It is not very durable; lots of holes from his teeth and nails, the wand with the feather comes off very easily and isn't long enough, the cloth comes off all the time. The wand gets trapped under the cloth too. I like the two different speeds and my cat loves it. He really doesn't like any toys, but sure loves this one! I feel like the lights are pointless; he shows no interest. I feel like a red laser dot would be better.

My cat loves this toy so much that she wore the first one out!
My cat adores this toy. Throughout the day, she sits next to it and waits for me to turn it on for her and it provides hours of entertainment for her! When the motor of the first one wore out, I kept the wand and the blue fabric piece and am glad I did because the fabric on the replacement piece is flimsy and gets caught up in the wand too easily. So, my suggestion to Smarty Kat is to go back to the slightly heavier material to provide hours and hours of fun. Other than that, this is an item I'm really happy to have found for my Molly. The original toy I had gets 5+ stars - this one gets 4 only because of the fabric difference.

Kitten and senior cat approved!!!
Update 3/11/22: still working fine, and getting used daily by 2 cats. The feathers have completely been ripped off now, and wand is surprisingly still intact, despite my senior cat always trying to chew on it. Having trouble with replacements feathers though. All the ones I’ve tried are too heavy so the ball can’t stand up and swing around. For now I just hot glued some feathers and ribbon from an old toy, light enough for it to work. Kinda disappointed like others that replacement wands are not available. But I can see another seller listing 2 balls w/ wands & 2 replacement wands for about $30, so weird how I can’t just purchase individual wands :(PROS: This is hands down the best toy I have bought for my 9 month old kitten. She has been playing with it pretty much nonstop since we got it. She plays with it all over the house (carpet and tile), she seriously just purrrs nonstop playing with this thing! She bats at it and attacks it while it’s on and moving, she still plays with it when turned off but keeps waiting for it to move, then looks at me like WTF Mom, FIX IT haha!!! My senior cat enjoys it too, but he loses interest after a few minutes…I think he just enjoys being bigger and faster than the kitten at attacking it. We have only had it for 1 day so I can’t speak for longevity of toy, but my husband picked up the kitten while she still had the feather wand in her grip. It dropped on the tile floor pretty hard but still stayed together in one piece and haven’t noticed any difference in the motor function so I would say it’s pretty sturdy!CONS: I will say that when I bought this (even after reading some reviews, but not enough) I thought this was motion activated. I thought it was always on standby and would start moving when touched, then stop after a while. So I was kinda disappointed when I realized you have to press the button for 10 min of motion that auto shuts off. So a little inconvenient to keep pressing the button every few minutes for my very active kitten, but it’s worth it. Keeps her occupied, when she’s bored or wants attention she just meows nonstop and looks for ways to get in trouble so she gets attention haha.As other reviews stated, packaging was tough to crack or cut with scissors but no more than other plastic packages. I was able to open it with 1 arm (other arm in a sling), scissors and muscle and DID NOT cut myself! Opening the battery pack was also a little tricky but not difficult. Just get a small screwdriver, lefty loosy, screw becomes loose but does not pop out, then I took a flat head screwdriver to pop the battery pack open, insert batteries then with a little force pop it back in and screw it tight. All in all, it was reasonably priced, does exactly what I wanted, and my kitten is seriously LOVING this thing. 9/10 rating for me, only reason it’s not 10 is cause I have to keep getting up to turn it on cause kitten meows at me 😹

It's a hit for a cat that doesn't like cat toys
I was a bit hesitant because there were so many reviews stating a short-life span, but since my cat loves to pounce/hunt objects underneath blankets, I thought this would be a perfect self-play toy, and it is - he loves it, and I like that it doesn't take up much space, and even less space when stored. I agree with the other reviewers that there should be replacement attachments offered, although so far, I haven't needed it. There's a large on/off button on top that is nice for my fat fingers. I do not like products that require unscrewing a tiny screw to insert/change batteries (thus a star deducted because if I dropped that tiny screw, my guy would be right there to swallow it) - this takes 3 AA.

My cat has an unhealthy obsession
My cat has an unhealthy obsession with this toy, so think twice before purchasing.A little background, I purchased this toy for my two 11 month old kittens. I have one cat that constantly wants to play, specifically chasing her favorite leather belt around (I am not sure why she is obsessed with the leather belt but she is) she constantly begs for it. The other cat loves to play fetch, and will honestly play with just about anything. Both cats are so affectionate and love being with us.I originally intended this toy for my female cat as she constantly begs us to play with her leather belt, and I figured this would entertain her, seeing as she can chase it around and it's less work for me. She could honestly care less about this toy. My male cat on the other hand, this is the only thing he can think about for the past 5 days since I received it. We wake up in the morning, he bangs his paw against it and cries for me to turn it on. I get home from work, more begging. Cries for me to follow him to this toy. I walk near the toy and he comes sprinting out of no where with loud meows. He spends all day next to this thing even when it's off. He no longer wants to snuggle, or play fetch, just wants to chase this dumb toy around.I have only had it 5 days, and the feathers are completely gone, so I do not rank durability of this product very high. But alas, my cat will still chase around the plastic nub. It's a great toy if you're okay with your cat potentially developing an unhealthy obsession.... But I am not sure if it's the toy for us.

Received defective.
The media could not be loaded. I decided on the Hot Pursuit because it got so many great ratings. I was so excited when it came, but mine was defective! So disappointed! This toy is a fantastic idea, as I never had a cat that didn’t like movement beneath a blanket. There is a base, which is made well and will not lift off the floor, even with rough play. There is an arm with a fur “tail” at one end and the other end screw turns into the base. Then there is a piece of thin fabric that goes over that and when you turn it on it looks like a small, furry critter moving underneath the fabric. Unfortunately, the thin wire sewn into the fabric to keep its shape was too wide for the piece of fabric which caused it to lift, almost as if it were warped, so the fabric never laid flat. It’s obvious that rushed production caused this defect. And when the arm started spinning the fabric just bunched up. I watched so many videos and theirs worked properly. However, mine did not. I included a photo of the warped fabric and a video of it running. My 14 week old kitten was entertained for a little bit. But she steals q-tips from the trash in the bathroom and will play with them for hours. My Maine Coon wasn’t entertained at all. It’s hit or miss with this one guys. Maybe you’ll get one that works…but maybe you won’t. Good luck!

Cheap Entertaining Toy for Certain Cats
My cat is difficult to please. She only wants to play with things if she can't see them. If she can see my toes she won't attack, but if I put my toes under a blanket, she's paws out, claws out. All the one star reviews of this toy actually helped me out. Complaints of how you can't see the little mouse and how it hides underneath the little blanket let me know that this was the absolute perfect toy for my cat.I'm not sure what the average price of this thing is but I paid a little over $11 bucks. For two coffees and a muffin, I'm not expecting a lot. I want to entertain my cat and if I get three or four months out of it, I'm good. I don't need to pass it down to my grandchildren in a cedar chest. The box says satisfaction guaranteed. I don't know how long that's for but since it's open-ended I'm going to say forever. I'm very reasonable. If it breaks before my cat gets $12 worth of happiness from it I'm going to ask for a replacement.About the toy.Noise was expected. I'm not surprised that at this price point, Smart Kitty has not perfected the silent motorized cat toy. It's not bad. I meditated through it and watched TV through it and it didn't bother me a bit. After a while I didn't hear it because it shut itself off which is a handy feature. I did hear my cat complaining so I got up and turned it back after checking to see if the motor was warm. It was cool as a cucumber. Here's where I wished for a remote control. My cat weighs about 11 lb and she hasn't turned it over yet.My cat absolutely loves this thing. She doesn't play with it like her other toys. She sits and looks at it. She watches it and tracks it and she tries to figure it out. And then after a while she starts to move in on it and touch it lightly with her paws. It's really a slow build-up to very vigorous play. At first I thought she didn't like it because she didn't just go right after it, but it was really more like stalking and waiting and hunting. She took her time enjoying this toy and when it shut off, it interrupted her playtime but when I turned it back on she picked right up where she left off. When it shut off the last time, she curled up on the little blanket part and went to sleep.I do want to point out that product is described as a CONCEALED toy. One would assume that means that most of the time the mouse is supposed to stay hidden. That's why the wand is segmented instead of straight out. It hides and only occasionally flings itself out. If your cat wants an OBVIOUS toy then don't buy this concealed toy. Get the one with the wand that doesn't bend.Teaching her to turn it on herself is the next task on my list. I think this toy could be improved by making it rechargeable and adding a remote control.

Fun for cat, pain for human
Once my cat wasn't terrified of this toy, she LOVED it! However, there's a few kinks that need to be worked out... the cloth cover gets tangled up in the arm SO FREQUENTLY that instead of spending my money on an automated toy, I should have just put a toy mouse on a string and done it myself, lol! I have a one year old VERY active kitty and I spend at LEAST 2 hours a day playing with her. I got this so I can have a break every once in a while, but having to constantly untangle it was a real pain in the butt! Also, the flashing lights need to be toned down a bit... they should put a seizure warning on it- they're VERY intense! If they could also make it rechargeable, that would be AWESOME! I've surpassed the price of the toy by almost 3 times in what I've shelled out for batteries!

A good toy, but it can break quickly
I love this cat toy. This is my third one. But the problem with it, is that my cat will grab onto the feathers and it stops the mechanism from moving, making it click as the motor tries to keep moving. The first one broke after a few months. The second one just slowed down so much that I had to throw it away. I wish there were more toys out there like this. But this is what's available.

My cats kind of like this, but not so much
I thought this would be a total hit with my cats, but they flip the cover over, grab the mouse and the fun is over in 15 seconds. Just not the hit I had visualized.

Fun diversion, but make sure it is right for your cat
This is a really neat toy that helps me keep my cat playing when I am unable to. However, this toy might not be suited for all cats, and I'm afraid mine barely uses the toy as intended. My cat is very strong, and so instead of batting the feather and keeping engaged that way, he prefers to just pin it to the ground completely and chew on the feather while the motor keeps running. He even has just picked it up by the wire and dragged it places, not minding that the device is trying to rotate. I still can't hate on this product as it does give me another option to keep him entertained with, and he does like it. Just wish it was made to resist even the strongest of cats.

Smarty Cat has great customer service
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE: The company very kindly sent me a new, different new far less noisy product. They explained that the newer units are designed to make a loud noise so that cats will release the wand toy. This prevents the motor from wearing down. I think do they need to go back to the drawing board, but I am changing my review because of their great customer serviceUPDATE: I am about to return a defective second unit. Both units make a horrible grating noise that could wake the dead. Our cat won't play with the new one because the noise frightens him. When Smarty Cat added the lights and more realistic wand toy, they clearly compromised on the quality.Pros: Except for the tiny skirt, this is a great design improvement upon the original Hot Pursuit toy. The old one just had a little red tube for the cat to chase around. Our cat got quickly bored with it, so I rigged it with a furry wand mouse much like the new and improved model. Our cat just CANNOT get enough of this new Hot Pursuit. He "asks" me to turn it on and plays with it for hours. Highly recommended for easily bored or high energy kitties.Cons: Smarty Cat lowered the price, and a s a result the quality of the newer design is abysmal. The skirt gets quickly ripped to shreds and the motor wears out in a few weeks. In addition, this new model is a battery eating monster! I have to replace the AA batteries at least once a week. This may be due to the addition of flashing lights. Sadly, I will have to find a similar, but rechargeable toy of better quality. I still have the sturdy old unit from years ago and there is no comparison.

Great product, especially if you have only 1 cat
I got the SmartyKat electronic mouse. The one that has the blue cloth and it goes around in a circle, I see that there’s other products that you can get through this seller, so I want to be as transparent as possible. When I was growing up, if we had a cat as a pet, we always got siblings. But as an adult, and after my last dog passed away 😭, my husband and I decided to get a cat for our little family. We have one cat in our household, her name’s Pepper, she’s a year and a half and play-time is her #1 priority still 😂 we bought her a wand with attachments, and she would always drag it around the entire house with her. We always play with her since we both work from home, so she is spoiled, to say the least, and she has become somewhat demanding with play-time lol! We wanted to get her something she could use that would stimulate her and we could work without distraction lol. This was the trick! It is louder than I had hoped it would be, which I thought would deter our kitty from playing with it, but that didn’t phase her in the least! We flip half of the circle fabric up for her when we turn it on and she goes even crazier over it lol. It keeps her occupied for hours, and I mean, hours lol! It automatically shuts off after about 15-20 minutes (haven’t kept time) but it does shut off and if we’re still up, we just hit the button and she’s right back to catching the infamous tail! The ONLY con I would say is that the tail screws onto the main part, but it easily falls off. Maybe our cat is just a rougher player lol but now that I know it comes off easily, I just make sure to keep an eye on it periodically to make sure it’s still attached lol.
