A fantastic view into the heart-achingly tough world of fostering
I have read a few of the reviews of this movie and have seen some Christians decrying it as being non-Christian, not a movie that is safe for the whole family, that it has an agenda, etc. They are right. This movie never claims to be a Christian film, or a film that was created for children and for adults, and it does have an agenda, one above all others. This film is to help people everywhere see what fostering is really like. The hardships, the joys, the struggles, the love, the pain, the heartbreak, and even, sometimes, the triumphs, both great and small. This film wraps Hollywood very, very loosely around the reality of the life that foster and adoptive parents live.I am a Christian, and grateful to be. I do know that there are things in this movie that some Christians will find offensive. I also know that for any Christian that is able to and chooses to foster or adopt, they are likely to find that many of the children in the system are going to have language issues, they are going to have hurts so deep that they will only ever be reached by unconditional love that focuses on the person and the heart and not just the bad behaviors. They will require a truly Christ-like love, and this film shows that. It doesn't sugar-coat the children and their behaviors, it doesn't whitewash the actual issues, because that would be an injustice and would harm the very agenda that they are trying to promote. What agenda is the movie focused on? It is the agenda to find homes for children that desperately need them. It is the agenda that wants people to know that there are children of every type and background, color and creed, from every walk of life imaginable that NEED a loving home. Do they show certain home situations that some Christians would find unacceptable? Yes. The movie also shows that those living in those situations can be phenomenal parents, no matter their faults and flaws. This film also shows that there are so many fewer bars to adoption and fostering than most people think. Single people, couples, older and younger, all can be approved for fostering, and all can provide a loving home.Is there language? Yes. Some of it is to show that even "proper" people who wouldn't normally use such language can be pushed beyond their boundaries by the stress and difficulty of fostering. Some of it is to show the sort of language that children will use both because they don't know better and because it is another way to keep people at a distance so that they don't get hurt again. I actually think that those who would recommend that adults stay away from this movie because it has foul language may not be the right people to foster or adopt children that are old enough to speak.Personally, this movie spoke to my heart. I have considered being a foster parent for years, even before I got married in my mid-30s. My husband and I have been unable to have children, and now I am too old and am being treated for cancer. My odds of bearing children are pretty much nil. We have, however, been considering adopting children because, while we won't be the best parents that ever were, we can be parents. We can love the least of these. We can open our hearts and our home to one or more children that just need someone to give them a chance.THIS is what "Instant Family" is all about. It is about the misconceptions, the hopes, the hurts, the struggles, the triumphs, the joys, and the sorrows. It is about parents making the right choices and the wrong ones, showing up for the children in their care, even when that sometimes goes very wrong or isn't the "right" way to handle a situation. It is about children who are terrified to let anyone close enough to love them because they have been so hurt, so broken, so abandoned, so many times. It is a movie about the changing faces of family, and how separate people grow to truly become that family.Watch this film. Look past the rough edges to see the truth at the heart of it. If you can do that, maybe you are one of those people who can be "special enough" for a child, or two, or three.

Absolutely love
Absolutely love this movie. If you wanna watch something that’s about family and how far a family would go for adopting a child. This is perfect.

Amazing must watch movie
It wasnt on any streaming services and I have HBO max, Hulu, Netflix, and Disney plus. It might be somewhere else to watch without cost but I checked mine and no luck. It used to be on Hulu but they took it off & im so sad about that. Ive watched this movie before and it was so good I had to rent it just so I could watch it again… personally $4 isnt much to watch a movie within 48 hours (I think is the time allowed they give u to watch it as many times as you’d like).

Funny, but definitely older kid movie
Funny movie. Definitely scenes with adult language that was not suitable for tween. I'm not talking about swearing. They could have done without that scene.

Too-true comedy on teen adoption! Corny & AWESOME <3 Great for friends & family, and workers!
We LOVE this too-true comedy movie. It's corny but awesome! not always polite but hits a LOT of home truths. Wish everyone would watch this because it gives a pretty realistic picture of adoption, of school-age kids & teens from the US foster care system. The director is a parent by adoption himself- it's based on their own family's experiences. They got input from a social worker who really gets it, and from a young alumna of the foster care system who consulted on the dialogue. Friends and relatives and teens/young adults who were adopted or are considering consenting to adoption, have all gotten something out of this film- a comedy with serious moments, it's poignant, heartwarming, hilarious.
