Great American Short Stories

Pros: Very nice compilation of short stories. Smallish book that is easy to handle and tote around with you if you like to keep a book with you to read.Cons: Difficult to read font that is both blurry and tightly spaced. If you are fortunate enough to have great vision this may not be a problem for you.I purchased this as part of my homeschool curriculum to accompany  The Gold Book: American Literature (High School) . So far we are enjoying the "Gold Book", but we decided not to use this short story compilation book. Instead I purchase each story individually on our kindle. That way we can purchase one digital copy of the story and all three of us read it simultaneously on our kindles. These older classic stories cost very little (sometimes free) for digital versions. I love that the kindle has the built in dictionary so we can look up any word that is new for us.

Using this for my homeschool curriculum and it has the stories I need but the pages started falling out while I was reading. Frustrated at the cheap binding but I have to remember it was a cheap book.

Great anthology! I remember it vividly from high school and want now to re-read some of the stories--especially the superb final short story, "In Greenwich There Are Many Gravelled Walks," by the now little-known writer Hortense Calisher.

Since I think Wallace Stegner is an all time great writer, I naturally was interested to see his selections of best and favorite short stories. They did not disappoint!Great writers, little known works and intriguing discoveries to those who pursue these wonderful tidbits.And it is a challenge to have a beginning, middle and ending for a brief work. These are sucessful and tightly packed.Enjoy

Very broad collection of short stories. We actually used this book in a high school Lit class. Quick delivery and great quality used book.

The contents of this book are outstanding, but I would rather have a hard bound edition. The pages are coming apart from the binding. We still use it for our homeschooling.

Excellent publication. So good we'll continue using next year for High School home-schooled tutoring.
