All their stuff is solid. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars What imaging! *by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2011* I've long been a fan of Definitive Technology speakers as they offer a great balance of performance verses cost. The SR-8080BP's are no exception. The 8080BP build quality is excellent with the polished end caps and center lending a touch of refinement to the overall appearance. They looked stunning, but would they perform?Some background on the system that they are used in:The 8080BP's were purchased to replace a pair of Profile bipolar surround speakers with dual 3 ½" drivers and dual ½" aluminum tweeters. The 8080's are currently paired with two BP2002TL towers, a C/L/R2002 center channel, and an SVS PB13 Ultra sub. Denon AVR-1804 receiver. The 8080BP's are installed 5 feet high, 8 feet apart, 3 feet behind the primary listening position in a very live room with a vaulted ceiling. Only one side wall has a reflection point 3 feet away, the other is open air to another room.I purchased these speakers on faith of the Def Tech name as there are no dealers in my area to audition them directly. It was a gamble that paid off! I was immediately surprised at the increased sound quality that these speakers offered! The sound stage was well wider and deeper than before, and appeared to extend over my head and towards the front of the room. This is something that I hadn't experienced with my statistically comparable previous setup. As the 8080BP's have drivers pointed at the side walls at 45 degree angles, I was very concerned that the lack of a reflection point on one side of the room would be a problem. Thankfully it was not; the amplitude was evenly weighted compared to the opposite side of the room and the sound stage was balanced. I was also concerned that the new BDSS drivers would not tonally mate well with the older style 5 ¼" mains and center channel. Fortunately this was not the case, most likely due to the continued use of Linkwitz-Riley crossovers within various Def Tech product lines over time. The rich and deep imaging that the 8080BP's provide is better than expected especially as they are located so far behind the primary listening position in my room.The only flaw in the 8080BP's is that the actual surface area of the drivers may not be adequate to support a large room. The factory spec is very misleading. The drivers are rated at 4 ½", but actual cone diameter is much less measuring only 3 ½" from outer edges of the surround (see picture). Be aware that the real world cone surface area is 60.5% of what you expect from the advertisement.How do you convey the sound quality of speakers in print? The huge sound presence that comes from the 8080BP's is amazing despite the 3 ½" drivers. Suffice it to say that I'm a hard sell.
