The walking stick cabbage, also known as tree kale, has been cultivated on the Isle of Jersey for centuries. This startling plant's thick stems can reach 7 feet in one growing season and up to 10 feet the second growing season, are turned into walking sticks for tourists. They have even been grown into sturdy roofbeams for thatched island cottages, plus providing fine edible greens the whole time. Proper name: Brassica oleracea longata 'Walking Stick'

Prefer the Tree Collard over the Walking Stick Kale
Very import to know that this is a HYBRID! That means that you will find some plants growing from these seeds will have different leaf shapes/sizes than other plants. Not my favorite hybrid of the kale/collard hybrids. If you can find a Tree Collard, grow it instead. But they are extremely hard to find. Bountiful Gardens sells them in a very narrow window each Spring. Sometimes you can find the Perennial Tree Collards on eBay. be careful though - make sure to ask the seller if the cuttings are woody at all. woody cuttings will be stunted and not grow into a mature plant. Tree Collards can only grow from cuttings. They rarely seed and when they do, the seeds aren't true to the mother plants. In other words, they will not become TREE collards. I've had the TCs growing up to 12' tall and four feet wide. Awesome!

Amazing!
It was growing soo great in a pot, from those tiny little seeds, until the squirrels got it!! I had hoped to make walking sticks! This year it has continued to grow on and on by itself...over the winter...with very little care. Amazing!!

Love it
Seeds are doing great, sprouted quickly. They are now getting their 3rd leaves and I have set them outside to get used to their new world. We have been right at about 32F each night and they are doing great. I will try planting them in another 3 weeks, me thinks.

Love this kale
Love this kale! Great taste too! They come back the 2nd year on their own. I will find out this next Spring if they continue to come back or not.....

Germination good
This seed germinated well for us and is growing quickly. This is a great plant to use at the back of our garden, and because it is tall and reasonably attractive it can be used in some spaces that would otherwise be hard for us to fill with edibles!

Five Stars
Great germination, but the storms last summer drowned my garden. Good thing I saved some seeds.
