Review: Great sound for a bookshelf loudspeaker unit. - Great quality speaker units! I used them in a pair of self build wall mounted MDF speaker cabinets for my sun room, where floor space is at a premium. When paired in a sealed (IB) 3.3 litre cabinet with a Dayton Audio ND105-PR 4" Aluminum Cone Passive Radiator these units provide almost all the high and midrange frequencies needed. I say almost as I found that adding in a Dayton Audio DC28F8 11/8" Silk Dome Tweeter (8 Ohm) just opened up the top end nicely. This is side firing to prevent the harmonic distortion associated with tweeters firing in the same plane. For the size of the Dayton Audio RS100-8 4" unit in these cabinets (external H260xD190xW140) the bass is very good but in my opinion, this needs the passive radiator to derive maximum low end potential. I drive the full range driver directly from the input but use a Sourcingmap 2 Pcs 100W 2-Way Speaker System Audio Crossover Filter Distributor as a second order filter to protect the tweeter from low frequencies. The resultant speaker shown is all that is needed in low volume (subjective) usage. For something a little more robust I have added a pair of spare KEF Q50s, laid flat behind my furniture and the overall sound is just stunning from classical to heavy (Rammstein). Out of interest, to ensure an 8ohm load back to my Mission Cyrus 3 amp (old school!) I split the sound between the speakers through an AV Link 4 Way Speaker Selector. The bass is actually quite 'tight', so nice and clear and not boomy. Voices are also crystal clear and it also handles louder volumes without an issue, treble is not harsh even at higher volume, which you can get from a lot of cheaper speaker drivers. Overall I think this is a well balanced speaker.

Great quality speaker units! I used them in a pair of self build wall mounted MDF speaker cabinets for my sun room, where floor space is at a premium.
