It took about one hour to assemble the unit and prime the filters. My tap has a spray nozzle, which means I had to use the alternate primer fitting, but the red dye test came out clean on the first attempt, so the filters were fully primed. I used 1-3/4 gallons of water to fill the tank, leaving a little air space above the filters. It took 2-1/4 hours to filter the entire tank. There was one quart remaining in the upper tank when it finished. The water tastes great and I'm quite happy with the unit. ## Features - GRAVITY-FED FILTRATION FOR EVERYDAY HOUSEHOLD USE:- The Big Berkey Gravity-Fed Water Filter System features a 2.25-gallon capacity designed for everyday drinking water needs. This just highlights the heavy metals. Hope this helps! **Q: How often are filter changes required under normal city water conditions?** A: It depends on how much water you filter & how many filters you use (2 or 4). Also, normal city water varies due to local water hardness. We fill up the filter 1 to 2 times per day (usually twice) with 4 & change them every 6 months, but if we didn't have kids, our filters would probably last us about twice as long. However, this is still cheaper than other filtering methods we've used & does a much better job. **Q: How does Calif prop 65 relate to this product??** A: There's plastic in it (the screws) so that sets off prop 65. The Plastic itself is safe but in the manufacturing some things are used that aren't. Prop 65 is waay too vast to be useful. **Q: Do the black filters remove lead?** A: Tests show the Black Berkey filters remove up to 95% of lead and a host of other heavy metals. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Water Filter Would Buy Again *by A***Y on June 15, 2026* This Big Berkey water filter works well. Use all of my pets water out of this. I have to refill it every few days. Filters last forever. I would totally purchase one of these again. I highly recommend. I've had it for about a year and a half and have never had any type of leaking issues and it still has the plastic water dispenser spout. ## Frequently Bought Together - Big Berkey Gravity-Fed Stainless Steel Countertop Water Filter System 2.25 Gallon with 2 Authentic Black Berkey Elements BB9-2 Filters - Medium Berkey Base Stainless Steel Stand Raises Your Big Berkey Water Filter System 6" Above Countertop for Easier Dispensing of Filtered Water - Genuine Berkey Stainless Steel Spigot --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.ke/products/5178966-big-berkey-2-25-gal-gravity-water-filter-system-bb9](https://www.desertcart.co.ke/products/5178966-big-berkey-2-25-gal-gravity-water-filter-system-bb9) --- *Product available on Desertcart Kenya* *Store origin: KE* *Last updated: 2026-10-10*
