The screw-anchor digs into the sand and is large enough to get into the packed sand. The included T-handle piece allows you to get the leverage needed to screw the anchor for a strong hold and the cross-pin and cam-screws securely hold the pole sections together and to the sand anchor. The setup allows you to easily rotate the umbrella so that the umbrella points in the needed direction when tilted.
