If you look at the picture of the VAC, the bulbous black bit at the bottom has to be completely submerged in water or the motor will burn out. I suppose to get round that it might be possible to fix something like a flexible vacuum cleaner hose to the base with a jubilee clip and use the VAC with the bulbous head submerged in a large container filled with water but I suspect it might be simpler to look for an alternative.
