## Description

Down-on-their-luck punk rockers The Ain¹t Rights agree to a last-minute gig in a backwoods Oregon roadhouse. The gig soon takes a sinister turn as the band members stumble upon a grisly murder scene and find themselves targeted by a ruthless club owner and his associates, determined to eliminate all witnesses. From the internationally acclaimed filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier (BLUE RUIN), GREEN ROOM is a nerve shredding thrill-ride with a thick vein of dark humour, featuring a gripping ensemble performance from Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Macon Blair and Callum Turner.

Review: "..BRILLIANT AND BRUTAL THRILLER.." - PLOT... Down on their luck punk rockers The Ain’t Rights are finishing up a long and unsuccessful tour, and are about to call it quits when they get an unexpected booking at an isolated, run-down club deep in the backwoods of Oregon. What seems merely to be a third-rate gig escalates into something much more sinister when they witness an act of violence backstage that they weren’t meant to see. Now trapped backstage, they must face off against the club’s depraved owner, Darcy Banker (Stewart), a man who will do anything to protect the secrets of his nefarious enterprise. But while Darcy and his henchmen think the band will be easy to get rid of, The Ain’t Rights prove themselves much more cunning and capable than anyone expected, turning the tables on their unsuspecting captors and setting the stage for the ultimate life-or-death showdown. This is a brilliant and brutal thriller, certainly one of the best movie releases of the year, a tense, edge of your seat movie with a dark fast paced story that has a grisly unfolding, who knows what will happen to these characters as they have to fight for their lives! The cast is strong all round, Anton Yelchin is great, its just a shame this was one of his last movies, Patrick Stewart plays a darker, shadier character than usual, the movie has a large amount of bloody violence all done very well, the movie has a great claustrophobic feeling of dread and being trapped and the music score helps carry it all out too. Highly recommend this to anyone who has not seen it, a gem of a movie. Blu-ray looks great in HD Features include a trailer, commentary and a short making of (10-mins) Region B only, 95-mins running time, 2016. English language only.

Green Room sees a punk rock band forced to fight for survival after witnessing a murder at a neo-Nazi skinhead bar, when the ruthless owner (Patrick Stewart) takes over the the handling of the incident. Having not seen the film since its initial cinema release 4 years ago a rewatch was long overdue. Luckily the film lives up to my memory, with its lean, mean, literal punk fuelled attitude and visceral, intense bloodthirsty brawls and kills. Backed by a killer soundtrack and impressive performances. The film maybe very basic and straightforward in its plot and characters but that doesn’t take away from the entertainment factor. The niche genre focus of the punk lifestyle is unique. with its accurate portrayal of the attitude and persona display that band members and fans accumulate. The story is a simple vs. situation, with the band members and a young woman taking on the vicious neo-Nazi skinheads attempting to cover up the murder. With 90% of the film being set in one location and the just over 90 minute runtime makes this a fast paced claustrophobic whirlwind. Going for a more realistic approach means that those looking for and expecting buckets full of splatter may be disappointed. However Green Room brings a gritty, wince inducing savagery to its violence. Dogs tear throats and faces apart, blunt knives slice flesh and bones snap all in suitably brutal fashion. The deaths are swift and come out of nowhere at times, leaving you constantly on edge and never certain of who will be offed next. The film has a sickly green, sweaty and dirty colour palette, the direction and editing build tension effectively. The late Anton Yelchin gives a good performance as the unlikely hero, who tries to keeps calm and reasonable, as he slowly loses it as he becomes wrapped up in the chaos. Imogen Poots is great as the quirky and borderline psychotic Amber and Patrick Stewart brings a cold, ruthless and quietly imposing menace to the bar owner Darcy. The other band members are also impressive in their roles. Green Room is a chaotic, bloodthirsty ball of carnage. Truly nasty antagonists, an original bunch of protagonists. The violence is raw and doesn’t hold back at all and tension never lets up. As mentioned the film doesn’t change the game in terms of genre and it does tick a lot of familiar boxes at time. It’s still an absolute blast though.
