Review: The reviews are legit... this is awesome! - My 7mo puppy is 40lbs of pure energy. I was looking for something that would hold her attention & keep her from being bored without just gnawing on a bone. This is the perfect stimulation for her! I also like that I don't have to worry about sharp edges anywhere on this toy. I purchased the XL last night & put it together out of her sight. This entailed simply opening the outer package, then pulling a netted bag out of the center of the log; this bag contained six squirrels that I cut out of the bag. There are four offsetting holes in the body of the log, with five if you count the larger hole at the top. I put all of the squirrels back in the log & introduced her to it so that it was more intriguing than just seeing squirrels piled up next to the trunk. She immediately went for it, grabbing one squirrel after another. She first played with them by the head or tail, so she got extra excited when I showed her that the bodies squeaked. They get strewn everywhere as she roots them out, then she sticks her nose in the log & tosses it around, prancing over to me to show that she found all the squirrels. The individual squirrels are also exciting to my puppy, & it's funny to see her play with one then realize there's another in the corner to play with, then the log, then another squirrel she hasn't played with in 2mins, & then another, & so on, ad infinitum. Sometimes, she takes a squirrel & brings it to me, stuffing it in my hand or on my lap so I can toss it to her. After a while, I put them back in the log, & the cycle starts again. I like to leave one or two stuffed in the middle & not poking out of a hole so that she has to work a bit harder to get them out, & she loves it. That means that I love it, since I can get work done & don't have to worry about my fur baby being bored & destructive. Speaking of destruction, my only complaint is that the squirrels aren't exactly durable. Within the first 3mins one of the squirrels lost a tail & its hair on top. Today another one kept its tail, but is also now bald. Given how much my puppy loves this toy, it's not enough for me to deduct a star. I don't know how long the trunk & the rest of the squirrels will hold up, but so far, I'm incredibly pleased. My puppy is too, as it was the first thing she went looking for after our morning routine/to start her playtime. I rarely write reviews, but this is one item that surprised me with how well it works; I readily recommend it to anyone with a fur baby! UPDATE JUNE 2025: More than a year later & these are still going strong! Sure, I've sewn a neck together & searched for a tail to sew back on, but I still have all the squirrels & the log is holding up. These days I'll hide a treat or two in it so the fun lasts longer & she has to root out the squirrels & figure out how to remove it, but she still plays with it on her own frequently!
Review: A HUGE HIT. NOT Chew-Proof - Day Two: "Starboy" (55-lb Border collie/Brittany) chewed off the back of one squirrel's head. But after being warned not to do that again to his furry friends, he has cooled it with the destruction bit. For now, anyway. (He's got a plush turtle toy he likes to pull the stuffing out of. We "refill" the poor turtle on a daily basis.) This is our guy's first "Hide It" type toy, so we weren't sure he'd take to it. For the first hour or so, the idea of hiding squeaky toys in a log seemed of no interest to him at all. The log and squirrels just sat there, ignored. Oh, heck. THEN-----the next day: Log gets carried all around and the shaking begins. Toss those squirrels! Make them FLY! It was so much fun to watch our dog having SO MUCH FUN. Squeak squeak squeak. Let's play fetch. Hide those squirrels for me again and again. Everyone in our house was laughing and taking turns playing this new game. Now, when any one of us comes home-----Starboy runs over to them with The Log in his mouth. It's the cutest damn thing. This toy is NOT chew-proof (see photos). But it is nice and soft and our guy REALLY likes it. He nibbles on the squirrels and on the log, too. Just be aware that the temptation to rip this thing up might be too much for your dog. ****** UPDATE: 1/10/24. We bought several more of these Hide-a-Squirrel toys here on desertcart and have given two away; spreading the joy to friends' dogs. Two units we stashed for future use. Log # 1 (first one purchased, years ago) is now about 1/2 shredded. Starboy has commenced to nibble on bottom of log # 2. Many squirrels are empty-headed now, having had their poor little noggings ripped open and gouged out. Sometimes the squirrels are played with, in a game of fetch. We call the log "Stumpy," and Starboy's ***favorite game of all time*** is to have my BF chase him around the sofa and living room table, while Starboy jogs carrying Stumpy, so as to "tease" BF. This has been going on now for about a year, nearly every evening after work. I never realized the "Stumpy" would become, by far and away, the favorite plaything. Again: Highly recommend this dog toy. Wait and watch for sales. Sometimes the price is a super bargain.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone got this for there carzy aussy cattle dog? and if so, how did it stand up to there chewing,**
A: My cattle dog/Weiner-dog mix tears though the squirrels and has the squeaky toy[her favorite part], out with-in minutes. lololol

**Q: I have a 10 pound red poodle, what size do you guys recommend? thanks!**
A: I purchased a "large". I have a 13 pound poodle/dachshund mix. But my neighbors 70 pound standard poodle plays with it as well.

**Q: Are the ginormous size squirrels the same size as the l size? i bought the l before, but want to get him the bigger one with the same size squirrels.**
A: I didn't purchased the L. I only have the ginormous size. The log is big enough for my 100 lb boxer. But the squirrels are pretty small. I imagine they are the same sized squirrels as the L. I hope this helps!

**Q: Is this safe for a large dog who is a strong chewer? I have a 3 month old golden retriever and am wondering if the Jumbo size and chipmunks hold up?**
A: My dog was about 55lbs and 6 months old. He ripped all the little squirrels open, more like chipmunks really. He likes to pull out the stuffing. He didn't ingest anything, just shredded the chipmunks. The tree is still pretty much intact. The jumbo size doesn't have bigger chipmunks, just a bigger stump that has more chipmunks. My dog loved this toy.

Our pup loves this toy - she treats the little chipmunks like they are precious to her. Barely holds them in her mouth. Love to have them thrown so she can retrieve.
