**Q: Can anyone tell me if 12 vanilla beans will be enough for one 1.75 liter bottle of vodka to make vanilla?**
A: By FDA standards “Pure extract” is 100g of vanilla beans for 1 liter of alcohol. 12 Grade A Gourmet Madagascar vanilla beans weighs between 45 - 50g. So 1.75 liter is way too much for 12 beans. Use about 0.6 liter for high quality extraction

**Q: I just purchased these Madagascar vanilla beans to make my own extract since these are already pre-soaked in bourbon can I still use them**
A: The beans are NOT pre-soaked. No vanilla beans is pre-soaked in alcohol. The “Bourbon” in the title is referencing the curing system used to condition the beans and the source. It has nothing to do with the alcohol bourbon.  Madagascar and Bourbon (French Reunion) are small islands in the pacific and they use a very unique labor-intensive conditioning and curing process with a characteristic strong aroma. That process is referred to as Bourbon, named after the then island Bourbon, before the name was changed to French Reunion.

**Q: What’s the best way to store unused beans?**
A: Vacuum seal them and store store in a cool dry place like your kitchen cabinets or pantry. Don’t refrigerate. If you don’t have a vacuum sealer, store in a ziplock bag or mason jar. But bear in mind that they will dry up with time if it’s not vacuum sealed.

A: It all depends on the size of the bean pods. For 6-7" full-size bean pods it's possibly going to be between 8-10 pods, give or take. If they are a bit skinny or short (~5.5"), then maybe about 12.

I have ordered these same vanilla beans several times and was very happy with all of them. Until now, and this batch is even better than before. They are plump and full of seeds which ooze out while cutting them. Even the drier ones in previous years have made phenomenal vanilla extract, and I can’t wait for this year’s to mature so I can try it. They smell incredible! I made bourbon vanilla bean paste too so I won’t have to wait!
