You add mobo and other hardware. I use it freenas to run plex. The 4 hotswap drive are easy access while rest of hardware is inside case. **Q: There appears to be a spot on the top for a dvd/cd drive. Can one be installed? If so, what would I need to look for when choosing one that will fit?** A: Yes, one can be installed! It takes a laptop-style internal DVD/CD drive with SATA data and "Slimline" SATA power (the case's included PSU has a slimline sata power cable of the appropriate length for this very purpose. In my case, I chose to mount an additional 2.5" SSD in that area (as a ZIL/write cache), as a DVD/CD rom drive for my NAS server didn't do me much good.
