When you're having a pen problem, disassemble the pen ONLY as far as you would be able to rinse it -- and not to where you've completely taken it apart. Take a rubber band and wrap around the end of the toothbrush. Carefully slip the pen point assembly through one of the loops of rubber band to hold it snugly against the toothbrush end and ideally, not against the actual brush. Turn on the toothbrush and submerge in water( I use an old plastic vitamin bottle ) or diluted pen cleaner or full strength cleaner. Probably it would work with mild soap, but stick with water or pen cleaner/water combos.
