Review: Great - Great Review: Helped Cure Bacteria Bloom Overnight! Use for Crystal Clear Water in Fish Tank! - We decided to do a deep clean four days ago on our saltwater tank. After the clean it did not return to its previous state of crystal clear water and appeared very cloudy with white particles. We assumed that we had kicked up some funk in the sand and created a bacteria bloom. This was the first time we have encountered this, so we did our research and decided we needed to over oxygenate the water, and then add fine filtration to the system. When this first started we did a water change, and added a fresh zorb pack to help clear the tank. That with increased aeration seemed to help but was not making quick enough progress to settle our nerves. After four days of waiting for the cloudy water to clear, we decided to add these active carbon filters to the mix! After a good rinse we added these to the filter and OVER NIGHT they seemed to have completely cleared up the tank! It was a relief to wake up to clear water and happy fish! Overall the cure to the bacteria bloom seemed to be these active carbon filters, and water aeration (we added a new bubbler)! These are an affordable option that did the trick and arrived as expected! They are small, but I just used two in my filter to create full coverage. We will keep these on hand and incorporate these into our tank maintenance moving forward for crystal clear water! ## Features - Chemical filter media removes heavy metals, odors, discolorations and pollutants - Premium, research-grade carbon with vast surface area for effectively absorbing impurities - Help creates crystal clear, sparkling aquarium water - Specifically designed for use with the Fluval Spec, Evo and Flex desktop aquarium series - Includes three replacement activated carbon inserts ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0049RIUWK | | Allergen Information | Nut Free | | Best Sellers Rank | #7,225 in Pet Supplies ( See Top 100 in Pet Supplies ) #37 in Aquarium Filter Accessories | | Brand | Fluval | | Brand Name | Fluval | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 8,380 Reviews | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00015561113779 | | Included Components | Fluval Spec/Evo/Flex Activated Carbon, Replacement Aquarium Filter Media, 3-Pack, A1377,Black | | Item Form | Granules | | Item Highlight | Replacement Aquarium Filter Media, A1377 | | Item Type Name | Fluval Spec/Evo/Flex Activated Carbon, Replacement Aquarium Filter Media, 3-Pack, A1377,Black | | Item Weight | 5.92 ounces | | Liquid Volume | 34 liters | | Manufacturer | Rolf C. It works. **Q: i have Top Fin filter on my 20 gallon tank , well i really dont know where do i place this carbon ?** A: Carbon should be the last thing the water touches before returning to the tank with the exception of a polishing pad. This is so ammonia and nitrite can be processed by the food bacteria before the carbon leeches it out of the water. Each filter is different so look at how the water flows in your filter for best placement. **Q: How often does the foam filter need to be replaced?** A: For the health of your fish you should replace the mechanical filter, the foamy thing, at LEAST every 2 months. This isn’t a sweater that you wear and replace when it’s worn out. Who ever gave that advice doesn’t know their @$$ from a hole in the ground. **Q: Is it possible to cut a third opening in the middle for an additional biomax bag?** A: Yes you could but that would mean you would have very little mechanical filtration. There won't be enough media left to filter anything. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great *by J***S on August 25, 2026* Great ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Helped Cure Bacteria Bloom Overnight! The wood of course leaked tannins into the water making everything brown. I added these to one of my two filters. It took 2 days but these pulled and continue to pull the tannins out ## Frequently Bought Together - Fluval Spec/Evo/Flex Activated Carbon, Replacement Aquarium Filter Media, 3-Pack, A1377,Black - Fluval SPEC Biomax - 2.1 Ounces (3 Pack) - Fluval Betta Diffusion Chamber Pad, Replacement Aquarium Filter Media --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.co.ke/products/2119070-fluval-spec-evo-flex-activated-carbon-3-pack-black](https://www.desertcart.co.ke/products/2119070-fluval-spec-evo-flex-activated-carbon-3-pack-black) --- *Product available on Desertcart Kenya* *Store origin: KE* *Last updated: 2026-10-14*
