We had these for about 5 years and they worked fine, in the interconnected system, then we started getting false alarms where all the detectors would go off and start blaring and beeping...ALWAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. They pretty much go off once or twice a night tho and we're through with these. I don't know why they only go off when you're sleeping, but we've had it. **Q: Does it have a visible low battery indicator in addition to the chirping? The instruction manual does not indicate this feature.** A: According to the manual, you have to stare at the green light, which is on solidly, and watch for a red flash, and count the seconds between. About 30 or so seconds, the battery is okay. About half of that, and it is not. Keep reading- it doesn't work the way the manual says!!!! I have only caught one low battery this way. I have never had them chirp, due to a low battery- they have consistently set off all of the alarms in the house, full volume and noise, for several seconds- VERY disconcerting, especially to the kids, and to me, in so far as they automatically assume that it is a battery issue, versus leaving the house. To be honest, so do I, after having been awoken several times in the middle of the night, due to this incredible poor design, (or flawed construction- the instructions don't say that this is how they are supposed to work.) In one instance, I had checked for the red flashing light timing, for indication of a low battery, about 4 days before the stupid thing went off again. Maybe it is just me, but I have neither the time, nor patience, to stare at each of these things every day or two, for a minute apiece, in hoping to catch a low battery before they go off. If I had the option (I don't own the house,) I would gladly buy something else, and would have replaced them all, at my own expense, long ago. **Q: Does it come with battery** A: Yes, it comes with battery **Q: If chirping continues after replacing battery and resetting, what do I do?** A: If the unit chirps at seemingly random times or at random intervals after replacing the battery, check for the following conditions:1) The battery may be loose, or improperly installed.The smoke alarm cover may be dirty.3) Reset the alarm.4) An electrical condition may be causing the power to the unit to be interrupted. If the AC power to the unit is interrupted, the unit will chirp when the power is restored.
