Once installed the bolt can go all the way through if in a lug. In a blind hole the insert gives 11.9mm of thread. The inserting tool locks the insert in place. The damaged M6 thread is drilled out with a 6.25mm drill (in the kit) then there is a counter bore for the insert lip 7.9mm dia x 1.2mm deep (cutter in kit) then tap for the insert which is a 7.15mm diameter.
