He was in a soft cast & crutches but is now starting to use this walking boot for partial weight bearing on his foot (still using crutches) for 3 weeks before wearing regular street shoes. This boot is much lighter than expected and the plastic shell offers better protection than other foam walking boots. He really likes the inflatable air chambers that he can pump to adjust the fit/pressure. After 1 day of wear, there are no tender spots (like ones you sometimes get with a pair of new shoes). Thre are two accessories that you must buy. Depending on how much swelling you have in your foot, you can either wear a tube sock, a looser sock liner (made by Aircast) or use a stockinette tube on your foot before putting on the boot. This will keep the boot clean and reduce any odors. Note, this boot is taller than my son's sneaker so I bought the EvenUp Shoe Balancer to add more height to his other leg so he can walk with a natural gait without one leg being shorter than the other.We bought the Standard model (as opposed to the Short boot) for maximum protection. We opted out of the Elite model due to the higher cost and that my son really only needs it for 3 weeks. I highly recommend this well-made boot.
