I did have expectations for what I wanted out of an awl though and this one has totally fit the bill. I wanted one that was smaller and comfortably fit in my hand. I wanted it to trace out patterns on leather/rawhide. I wanted it to be able to punch holes in the wet rawhide as well. And I wanted it to help me push lacing through the punched holes. All the while, I wanted a sturdy feeling awl that felt like it was quality made and would last for years. This CS Osborne 1 X Scratch Awl is perfect! It has met all my criteria and works flawlessly for me! I couldn't have asked for anything better. Review: Not too sturdy, but sharp. - I mostly use this for bookbinding, and the shaft of the as I is just a little too big for the needle, so I have to be careful not to push it in all the way. Other than that, it's great. Very sharp and pretty sturdy, but not perfect. I ordered a second one just to have it in case I misplace or lose my current one.
