They are carbon steel sticks that have been slightly shaped on a belt sander and have a decorative string glued on them. The box is sorta neat but still not so great. Are they round? Are they 1/2"?** A: overall the total lengths are 7 1/16th inch to 8 1/8 inch long depending on the type of chisel - the shafts I have are octagonal - I'm not doing in the round carving just relief - currently I'm working on hard red sandstone 2 and a quarter feet long by 9 inches thick the chisels have held up well for the rough outlining and I've utilized them all with no problems or sharpening and the hammer feels good in the hand too **Q: Can i use these on soapstone?** A: Yes.
